The Newton Park Campus at Newton St Loe near Bath is home to a multi-camera TV studio with gallery, plus a smaller studio, both of which can be linked to one of two audio control rooms. There are also nine video edit suites and a small viewing theatre. These facilities are in demand for teaching and student work so access may be limited to out-of-term times.
Bath Spa University has various sets of immersive equipment suitable for training, workshops and experimental R&D, including VR headsets, 360 cameras, binaural and 360 sound recorders and inertial motion capture suits. We also have a lidar scanner suitable for creating virtual 3D models of buildings.
Our focus is on making this kit available for training, for use by creative practitioners for R&D, and to introduce communities across Bath and Bristol, who might not otherwise have access to equipment like this, to the exciting creative and career building possibilities within immersive tech.
In addition, we have recently taken delivery of a 12 camera OptiTrack marker-based motion capture system. This is a good quality mocap system that can be used for streaming into a virtual environment created in a game engine like Unreal. The system is set up in TV Studio B at the Newton Park campus but is also mobile so can be set up in any suitable space. We have also installed a Vanishing Point Virtual Production system in TV Studio B at Newton Park, this set-up is suitable for training purposes.
