The Bridge is an interdisciplinary research lab funded by £3.2M investment from Art and Humanities Research Council and West of England Combined Authority. The Lab is currently under development and will have over 500m2 of studio space located next to Bristol Robotics Lab at UWE’s Frenchay Campus.
The vision with the lab is to establish a research space which can truly bring together skills and knowledge from diverse disciplines in art, design, science and robotics. Another key vision for the lab is to bridge research focused on virtual and immersive environments with projects that are centred on explorations with physical media, such as large-scale robotic 3D printing with biodegradable composites.
Central to the concept for the lab is a shared ‘collision space’ to encourage interdisciplinary interaction and to facilitate a breakdown of barriers to technologies to enable research in the creative industries to utilise the most up-to-date equipment.
The lab will have an amazing equipment pool including: collaborative robotic arms, motion capture, virtual production, immersive audio, AI, VR, drones, 3D printing and digital fabrication.
