What is TLG – puppix® – Physical Puppetry Performance for Digital Motion?
The Black Laboratory’s successful My World Collaborative Research and Development bid, in partnership with researchers from the University of Bristol Department of Film and Television and supported by the UKRI, MyWorld and NVIDIA Inception, will further develop puppix® – The Black Laboratory live puppet performance system technology, to create a production-ready, customisable, modular, performance system for physical puppet characters and their digital twins in any desired design – from cartoony children’s’ characters to realistic animals and creatures.

More about the collaboration
Ben Mars, director of The Black Laboratory said “We’re excited by the expanded possibilities that our collaboration with the University of Bristol Department of Film and Television will offer – for puppeteers, animators, performers, creators and audiences to collaborate to create amazing character stories, performances and experiences. The goal of our puppet performance system is to allow directors and actors to work with non-human characters with the same flexibility, freedom and immediacy as human actors, by bringing all the characters in a scene together into the same moment in time and space.”
